About Me
Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to learn a little about me! O.K....you are probably wondering....who's Pete? Along time ago, my father, who took time to nurture me in my artistic endeavors from early on, referred to me as 'Pete' (even while my mother was still pregnant with me). He claims that he didn't care if I was a boy or girl! And so, 'Pete' has stuck with me to this very day and this is my way of honoring my father. The 'sake' actually means 'sanity' to me. If I couldn't create, experiment or design, I would probably go crazy! (I hear my husband in the background saying "go?!"). Now, for my jewelry....wire and all metal adornments are either solid sterling silver or 14K, unless indicated. My semi-precious pieces come from years of collecting interesting stones and now, finally, turning them into beautiful, fun to wear pieces. After taking several independent lampworking classes, I was hooked on creating beautiful borosilicate glass beads. 'Boro' is a very durable, hard glass that comes in the most breathtaking colors! The glass is melted using a torch that heats up to 1700 degrees by utilizing propane and oxygen. After I am happy with the shape of the bead, it is placed in a kiln and annealed at 1050 degrees. The annealing helps to eliminate any inner fissures and to occasionally bring out more color in certain glasses. After cleaning, assembly, polishing and tagging, the piece is ready for sale. I have found working on a torch a wonderful type of creative expression and therapy! Learning and applying my wirework skills adds just the right 'touch' to my glass jewelry. A heartfelt thanks goes to my husband and daughters for supporting me in my endeavors! I love you guys! Enjoy! |
